Vedic Swastik symbol spiritual significance and correct way to draw

The Swastik Symbol has been of spiritual significance to Indian religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

Various theories are associated with the symbolic meaning of Swastika. 

The common interpretation is 

  • The four Vedas in Hinduism, 
  • The four goals of life – Dharam (Religion), Arth, Kama, and Moksha
  • The four seasons
  • The four directions

Ancient text states

  • The Center point is Nabhi Chakra
  • The four dots are Dharam, Arth, Kama, and Moksha
  • The four right angles are 4 directions East, West, North South
  • The four flaps are  North East, North  West, South East, South West
  • The Vertical bars on left and right, which are drawn from bottom to top just like Tilak is concentrating energies.

1. Swastik should be drawn with Right hand finger 4, also called Ring Finger or Anamika in Hindi

  1. Vermilion – Sindoor – सिन्दूर – Roli
  2. Sacred Water – Gangaajal – गंगाजल
  3. Ashtagandha – अष्टगंध or Sandal – चंदन
  4. 2 Small Bowls – 3. 2 कटोरी

3. Mix well  the Vermilion

Mix well  the Vermilion – Sindoor and  Sacred Water  in one Small Bowl

4. Mix well the Ashtagandha

Mix well the Ashtagandha or Sandal and  Sacred Water  in one Small Bowl

5. Assume Positions and imagine their Labels

6. Draw lines with Vermillion – sindoor

  1. Point A to B to C
  2. Point A to D to E
  3. Point A to F to G
  4. Point A to H to I

7. Draw a flap with Vermillion – sindoor

  1. Flap J on Point C
  2. Flap K on Point E
  3. Flap L on Point G
  4. Flap M on Point I

8. Draw a dot with Ashtagandha or Vermilon

  1. Put a dot at Point A (Nabhi Chakra)
  2. Put a dot at Point N (Dharam)
  3. Put a dot at Point O (Arth)
  4. Put a dot at Point P (Kaam)
  5. Put a dot at Point Q (Moksh)

9. Draw Lines with Ashtagandha or Vermilon

  1. Point R to S (Bigger than swastik)
  2. Point T to U (Bigger than R to S Line)
  3. Point V to W (Bigger than swastik)
  4. Point X to Y (Bigger than V to W Line)
