Understanding Vedic Jyotish Vimshotri Dasha

Understanding Vedic Jyotish – Part 7 – Vimshotri Dasha

Vimshottari Dasha is a significant and widely used system in Vedic astrology for predicting the timing of events in a person’s life. It’s based on the positions of the Moon at the time of an individual’s birth and divides a person’s life into major and minor periods (Mahadasha and Antardasha, respectively) associated with different planets.

Vimshottari Dasha system

  1. Mahadashas: The Vimshottari Dasha starts with the Mahadasha of the ruling planet of the Moon's Nakshatra at the time of birth. Each Mahadasha lasts for a fixed period of time, determined by the position of the ruling planet in the Vimshottari Dasha cycle. The total duration of all Mahadashas combined is 120 years.
  2. Antardashas: Each Mahadasha is further subdivided into Antardashas, which are periods governed by sub-period planets. Antardashas follow the sequence of planets in the Vimshottari Dasha cycle. The duration of Antardashas varies within each Mahadasha, depending on the specific planet's position in the cycle.
